Flying Brick House
2024
Site specific performance with balloons, at Duy Xuyen Old Brick kiln
20 minutes
In life there are always discomforts and confinements which we seek imagination to escape, and that was how the series of performances “Bóng” came into being.
This time, I came across an old abandoned brick kiln in Hoi An and the owner with a dream to continue its story. The performance is an imagined landscape of a flying brick house that comes to rest in a paddy field; the sentient beings that took shelter in that house slowly come outside, spreading a spirit of freedom and whimsy to the surrounding sky and people.
Bóng Series (“Bóng” means balloon/shadow/queer) was first introduced to the audience in Ho Chi Minh City within the framework of the Dựng Đợt 1 (Building Phase 1)” program of Đẩy Sàn Project and The Run Theater. With the support of the Goethe Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, this time, “Bóng” Series had the opportunity to introduce to the audience in Hoi An with the second performance titled “Flying Brick House” at No Cai Bum 2024.
collect dreams and put in small colored shapes
let them all soar and bloom into flowers
my prayer to reach what freedom is
flying balloon house exploded a frameless sky
gom những giấc mơ vào những gói màu nhỏ
cho tất cả vút lên và tan ra thành hoa
lời em nguyện cầu làm người tự do
nhà bay bóng vỡ nở bầu trời không chân
